The blueberry mist was made out of coconut milk, blueberries, banana and coconut flakes. The key to using these four ingredients is that they are loaded with nutrients and specific benefits to your health.

Breakfast is my favorite meal in the summer because I usually make a huge smoothie with seasonal vegetables and fresh fruit from the farmer’s market.  Sometimes I make a smoothie bowl, which is thicker than a regular smoothie, so you can serve it in a bowl and use a spoon to eat it. But on a hot summer morning, a regular, drinkable smoothie really hits the spot. I shared an all green smoothie bowl recipe that included spirulina not too long ago; you should try it, it’s to die for! This recipe is a little lighter, more straightforward and delicious, especially if you have a love for berries and magic.

Bananas

Banana is the base of this cold drink! If you like frozen drinks, try freezing your bananas before using them in your smoothie. Bananas are one of the most widely consumed fruits in the world and eating them gives a lot of nutritional benefits because bananas are highly nutritious.  Bananas are rich in folate, riboflavin, net carbohydrates, protein, potassium, magnesium, copper, manganese, iron, vitamin B6, vitamin C and vitamin A.   These nutrients play different roles in the body and aid in keeping the heart healthy because the potassium and magnesium in the banana help regulate blood pressure as well as maintaining healthy kidney function (William, 2015). Who doesn’t want a healthy heart? I know I sure do!  Bananas are also very rich in fiber and which helps in improving food digestion.

Bananas contain antioxidants such as dopamine and catechins which help fight the risk of some degenerative diseases.  Antioxidants also play a fundamental role in the body by lowering toxic substances that can be harmful to the body if they are left to accumulate (Evdokimov, 2016).  Did you know that some of the nutrients in bananas also help regulate blood sugar?  As mentioned, bananas are very rich in fiber.  This fiber is called pectin and is very important for the body’s natural regulation of blood sugar after eating a meal. Bananas are also high in natural sugars, making them a healthier alternative to using raw sugars to sweeten drinks and other foods.

Blueberries

Blueberries are unique and full of flavor! If you want something that is highly nutritious and that has many nutritional benefits, blueberries are the super food for you.  Blueberries do not have any sodium in them, which helps to lower your blood pressure.  They are also essential for maintaining a healthy heart because the blueberries do not have cholesterol. They are rich in fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin C, vitamin B6.  By lowering your cholesterol, you also reduce your risk of heart disease which is why blueberries are so often promoted for being a food that is good for your heart.

Blueberries contain nutritional elements that help in maintaining bone structure and its strength (Morris, 2013). Nutritional experts have proven that the presence of iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc and vitamin K in blueberries is responsible for the formation of healthy and strong bones.  Because of their high fiber content and their ability to help regulate blood sugar, lipids, and insulin levels, eating blueberries will also help you manage diabetes (William, 2015).

Research has proven the relationship between blueberries and reduction is the risk of suffering from cancer.  This is due to the action of vitamin c, vitamin A, and the phytonutrients present in blueberries. These nutrients protect the cells against radical changes from taking place.  Here’s a fun fact for you; the nutrients found in blueberries will also aid in smoothing wrinkles on your face and body while at the same time improving the texture of your skin.  One last fun fact about blueberries is that they also help in maintaining brain function as well as improving memory.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is easily in most grocery stores.  Let’s get lost in this great ingredient! Coconut milk contains fiber, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B1, B3, B5 and B6, selenium, iron, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. These nutrients play a fundamental role in maintaining a healthy body and your immune system (Morris, 2013). It is important to note that coconut milk is lactose-free and therefore has low-fat content.  Coconut milk also helps in enhancing your body’s metabolism because it contains medium chain triglyceride (MCT), an enzyme helps in improving your metabolism (Morris, 2013).  More importantly, these MCT’s are not stored in the body as fat and help lower the levels of bacteria in your body, reducing your chance of catching viruses and infections.  The calcium found in coconut milk is a much healthier alternative to strengthening your bones by drinking cow’s milk.

In summary, the Blueberry Mist smoothie containing banana, blueberries and coconut milk offers a lot of nutritional benefits.  These advantages include improved digestive health, blood sugar and pressure regulation, improved heart and kidney health, improvement of the immune system, and will help cleanse the body from toxic substances. It is important to note that the all four ingredients used to make the Blueberry Mist are low calorie. This, along with all of the other nutritional benefits of the ingredients makes this smoothie both nutritious and healthy.

There are additional benefits associated with drinking a smoothie rather than making a salad using the ingredients. Though the nutritional values are the same, drinking a smoothie has more benefits than a salad.  Most importantly, smoothies are digested far more quickly than a salad.  I mean, who has time to sit and eat multiple salads per day, I know I don’t!   This is because the ingredients have been blended and liquefied. By blending the large pieces of fruits and vegetables, the cells of the components of this smoothie have been broken apart, enabling the body to absorb the nutrients much quicker, making them easier to digest by the body.  Since these nutrients are absorbed quickly, they help increase the energy in the body faster compared to salads.
