Laser Cosmetic Blepharoplasty is performed without a scalpel, use of the laser allows the surgeon much greater control for this delicate procedure. The laser immediately seals blood vessels and extremely precise so that recovery time is drastically reduced. Laser Blepharoplasty can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids. Scarring is dramatically reduced if not invisible by hiding the upper eyelid incision in the crease of lid and the lower lid incision inside the eyelid.

Should I consider laser eyelid surgery?

Look in the mirror do you see any of the following conditions?
  • Excess skin obscuring the natural fold of the upper eyelids
  • Loose skin hanging from the upper eyelids, perhaps impairing vision
  • A puffy appearance to the upper/lower eyelids, making the eyes look tired
  • Excess skin and fine wrinkles on the lower eyelids
  • The presence of bags and dark circles under the eyes
  • Droopiness of the lower eyelids, revealing the white below the iris

If your answer is yes to any of these conditions than Laser Blepharoplasty may be right for you.

Laser Blepharoplasty can usually correct these problems, though other treatments may also need to be considered. If the upper eyelid condition is accompanied by sagging of the eyebrows, then a forehead lift may be recommended. Smoothing of crow's feet may require chemical peeling or laser resurfacing procedures. Circles beneath the eyes caused by dark pigmentation may be treated with a bleaching solution or chemical peel.

If you’re over the age of 40 chances are that some or all of the above signs may be present. That is because during your late 30s and early 40s, the elasticity in the thin and delicate eyelid tissues starts to give out, even if the rest of your face still looks young. Aging around the eyes is largely determined by heredity. Chances are that if you have saggy baggy eyelids, so do your parents and siblings.

Treatment by Laser Blepharoplasty goes a long way towards restoring a more youthful look. If your eyes are bright, the impact of a sagging jowl is greatly diminished.

Thus, many people elect to undergo Laser Blepharoplasty before or instead of a full facial restoration. And since the eyelids tend to age earlier than the forehead and neck, there is little reason to wait for your whole face to show the affects of time before deciding to fight back.

What to expect:

Dr. Mok or Dr. Kotlus will evaluate the overall condition and health of your eyes. This information, along with other factors such as age and skin type will determine a plan that best addresses your specific needs.

Laser Blepharoplasty is performed without a scalpel so generally a local anesthetic is all that is needed. You may be given a mild sedative to help you relax.

Laser Blepharoplasty eyelid surgery If you are having surgery performed on your upper eyelids, excess skin and/or fatty tissue will be removed. The laser incisions will be made along the natural folds in your skin so that as it heals, they become difficult, if not impossible to see. If your surgery is on your lower eyelids an incision is made inside or behind the eyelid, which allows for the removal of fatty deposits while avoiding the need for an external incision. The “no-scalpel” use of a laser allows the surgeon much greater precision for this delicate procedure.

After the procedure you may experience some swelling. Cold compresses and head elevation will help reduce these effects. Dr. Mok or Dr. Kotlus may also recommend eye ointments and/or eye drops to keep the eye moist and clean.

Postoperative discomfort is usually mild, but your eyes may feel sticky, dry and itchy for a week or more after the procedure. Take special care in cleaning around your eyes during this time.
Laser Blepharoplasty is generally considered a cosmetic procedure and most insurance companies will not pay for it. However, if your eyelids are encroaching upon your field of vision, the procedure may be covered as "medically necessary". We can determine if this condition exists and contact your insurance carrier to determine if the procedure is covered under your plan.

Aesthetic eyelid surgery is performed on adults of all ages. Some people have eyelid surgery to correct problems that are a result of aging, while others have inherited traits that cause them to seek treatment as early as their 20s or 30s.

The decision to have Laser Blepharoplasty is a personal and sometimes medically necessary one. Most people are more comfortable with this no-scalpel approach as opposed to traditional Blepharoplasty surgery that uses a scalpel knife that can create asymmetry, unevenness, and delayed healing. Laser Blepharoplasty is one of the highest patient satisfaction cosmetic surgeries.
